Qavi Khan, the iconic Pakistani actor, entrepreneur, playwright, and radio act. He built a long-lasting career in radio, theatre, television, and film. Qavi Khan was recognized as a talented and authoritative performer across generations. He began his career as a child actor and became one of the most decorated and respected artists in Pakistani artistic communities. He began his artistic journey in Peshawar with Radio Pakistan.His original radio program had prepared him for the transition to television and films. Qavi Khan distinguished himself as one of the original few actors to appear on Pakistan Television (PTV). He was part of historic television plays on PTV such as Lakhon Mein Teen, Andhera Ujala, Dhoop Kinare, Ankahi, Tanhaiyan, Humsafar, and others. He was often recognized for his subtle performances and rich storytelling in Pakistani television drama. He earned awards, and made an impression with characters he played on stage, and made excellent contributions to the theatre in Lahore and beyond. His film career was rich and extensive with over 200 film appearances. In earlier films like Mauhabbat Zindagi Hai, Chand Suraj, Sarfarosh, Kalay Chor, and Zameen Asman, Khan showcased his versatility. He made a notable contribution in the sci-fi thriller Sar Kata Insaan.He even wrote an autobiographical one-man stage play entitled Action and Reaction. When Qavi Khan learned people were directing and producing – not too distant from the lights – he was curious enough try his hand at it. Qavi Khan also received some of Pakistan’s highest civil awards for arts and culture such as Pride of Performance, Sitara-e-Imtiaz and posthumously for Nishan-e-Imtiaz. He was given a lifetime achievement award by Pakistan Television, as well as awards from the film industry. His most recent appearances included television dramas and films, along with Meri Shehzadi and Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad, indicating that he still had a vibrant presence even in the closing stages of his career.
He will be remembered as an extraordinary actor and also as a mentor, whose discipline, professionalism, and kindness touched many.
