Ashir Azeem

Ashir Azeem is a Pakistani-Canadian actor, writer, director, and producer known for his influential television and film work. He was born in 1962 in Quetta, Balochistan, Pakistan, and later developed a career across several professional fields. Ashir Azeem studied aeronautical engineering at the Pakistan Air Force College of Aeronautical Engineering. He later completed a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the Institute of Business Administration in Karachi. In 1988, he joined Pakistan's Central Superior Services and began working in government service. During his civil service career, Ashir Azeem developed an interest in writing and storytelling. He eventually wrote a story based around Pakistan's armed forces and law enforcement environment. That story later became the foundation for his most famous television drama, Dhuwan. Dhuwan was broadcast on Pakistan Television in 1994 and became a major milestone in his entertainment career. Ashir Azeem played Azhar, one of the central characters, while also receiving writing credit for the series. The drama followed five friends who worked together against criminal activities and dangerous elements in Quetta. Its action-oriented storyline and outdoor filming helped distinguish Dhuwan from many contemporary Pakistani television dramas. The series featured Ashir Azeem alongside Nabeel Zafar, Nazli Nasr, Asal Din Khan, and other performers. Following the success of Dhuwan, Ashir Azeem became widely recognized among Pakistani television audiences. He later stepped away from the entertainment spotlight while continuing his professional work outside television. Ashir Azeem eventually moved to Canada and continued developing projects connected with filmmaking and storytelling. In 2016, he returned to Pakistani cinema with his debut film, Maalik. He wrote, directed, produced, and acted in Maalik, demonstrating his involvement across multiple areas of filmmaking. The film was released in Pakistani cinemas on April 8, 2016, after several years of development. Ashir Azeem had originally written the story for Maalik during the 1990s. The film featured Ashir Azeem alongside Sajid Hassan, Farhan Ali Agha, Adnan Shah Tipu, and Rashid Farooqui. He later appeared in Hassan Rana's war film Yalghaar, released in 2017. In Yalghaar, Ashir Azeem portrayed Major General Ahmed in a supporting role. His career therefore spans television drama, cinema, writing, directing, production, and public service. Ashir Azeem's transition between government service and entertainment makes his professional journey particularly distinctive.
