In the last couple of years there has been a lot of talk about nepotism in the entertainment industry. Although family connections have their advantages, audiences are now more likely to value talent, consistency and hard work more than a famous surname will.

This is no different from the entertainment industry in Pakistan. A lot of actors, producers, musicians and television personalities are from the influential showbiz families. A few have made successful careers, though, and many fans don't know their family history.

These celebrities, rather than just relying on their connections, found their niche by having great performances, producing great shows and by working hard over the years.Here are some of those Pakistani showbiz personalities who have emerged from famous entertainment families for their own work.

Adeel Hashmi

One of the most versatile artists in Pakistan is Adeel Hashmi. Comedy, drama, hosting, and acting on the stage have always left their marks on the minds of audiences due to his innate talent.

Most viewers knew him from his striking Ufone advertisements and then from his appearance in various dramas and other hosting roles on television.

What few people know is that Adeel comes from one of the best literary and media families in Pakistan. His mother is Muneeza Hashmi, who is an acclaimed media producer. His father was also a distinguished educationist and Adeel is the grandson of the great poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz, whom he commemorates by hosting the yearly Faiz Mela.

Ali Tahir

Ali Tahir is no stranger to Pakistan's drama industry after spending more than two decades working hard to become one of its most reliable character actors.

No matter whether he plays the role of a rustic personality or an urban professional, Ali has shown great versatility as a character actor in many dramas like Sher and Zard Patton Ka Bunn. Ali has been very successful in entertaining the drama viewers with his amazing screen presence and solid performances.

Ali belongs to a family with rich literary and artistic background. Ali Tahir's grandfather is one of the most acclaimed playwrights in Pakistan and his name is Imtiaz Ali Taj. Momina Duraid is one of the most prominent producers in Pakistani television industry.She has made countless successful TV plays and she is continuing to make Pakistani entertainment more advanced. She is working on one of the most ambitious international projects of Pakistan, namely Netflix's "Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo".

Momina has been associated with the world of showbiz via her mother-in-law Sultana Siddiqui, who is the founder of Hum Network.Of course, she had enough chances to prove her skills in a well-established media house but she managed to do that only by making great stories and dramas.

Ushna Shah

Bilal Maqsood

Bilal Maqsood is one of the leading musicians in Pakistan.He contributed greatly to the development of Pakistani pop music by being a member of the band Strings.The son of well-known author Anwar Maqsood, one of Pakistan's leading literary figures.It is important to note that many fans did not know about this fact when Strings were at the height of their fame.Bilal earned respect based on his own talent and not based on his father's fame.
